The average American tosses out 81 pounds of clothing per year, which amounts to 26 billion pounds of textiles and clothes in landfills. Artists in the USA are doing something about all that waste.
Upcycled Plush Animals: Adorable critters and cacti, handmade out of recycled clothing, including sweaters, shirts, and men’s suits. These plush critters are handmade and very cuddly. They're not just for kids: add a bit of whimsey to your living room or office, and don’t be surprised if you end up hugging them.
Fleece Critters: Each of our Fleece Critters saves 1/2 pound of scraps from the landfill. Made in Colorado by a three woman family who has run a cut-and-sew shop for eighteen years, the inspiration came when the owner was looking for ways to not throw away scraps, and decided to make bunnies for Easter out of some of the scrap fleece.
This Holiday Season, you have the opportunity to give a Fleece Critter as part of Seeds for Kindness support of the University of Virginia Children’s Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. When you give a fleece animal, it will be delivered to a child spending the holidays in the hospital. Feel good knowing that you are comforting a sick child with a huggable stuffed fleece animal, and keeping more waste out of the landfills.
